Evans Nimako, the Director of Elections for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has issued a call for calm and unity among supporters as the November 4th presidential primaries approach.
During an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Nimako emphasized that the primaries are an internal election aimed at selecting a leader for the 2024 general election. He urged campaign teams to exercise caution in their statements and actions.
Nimako stressed the importance of party unity after November 4th, stating that division and disunity should be avoided. He assured that measures have been implemented to ensure a fair, transparent, and smooth exercise. All delegates and aspirants are expected to adhere to the established regulations.
The Director of Elections reiterated that violence will not be tolerated, and troublemakers will be apprehended and prosecuted by the police, who are responsible for maintaining security during the primaries.
Among the four contenders seeking to lead the NPP in the 2024 election are Kennedy Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin North; Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto; and Francis Addai-Nimoh.
While a significant victory has been predicted for Dr. Bawumia, a recent poll by Global Info Analytics suggests that a runoff election is a possibility.
