Suspect in Fatal Hit-and-Run Accident Involving Two Achimota Students Taken into Custody, Family Says

The driver behind the hit-and-run accident that killed Achimota alumni Davida Asante Boateng and Lilian Akorli has been arrested after a police chase, family confirms.

The devastating incident, which occurred on March 7, 2025, along the Achimota Highway, claimed the lives of the two young women, both members of the Old Achimotan Association 2024 (OAA24) and former residents of Stopford House.

Confirming the arrest, Alice Safoa, aunt of the late Davida, said that the driver was apprehended by police following a chase on the night of the incident.

The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. According to the police, the driver was arrested after a chase. However, the hospital staff later said the driver sought refuge there, fearing an attack from eyewitnesses. After his arrest, he was taken to the hospital because he wasn’t well, but he has since recovered and been sent back to the police cells,” she narrated in an interview with Channel One TV.

The tragic crash happened as Davida and Lilian were returning to the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) after attending Achimota School’s annual bonfire celebration. Eyewitnesses said the driver of a black Toyota Corolla knocked them down and fled the scene without offering assistance.

Bystanders rushed the victims to the hospital, where they arrived at about 12:02 a.m. Unfortunately, Davida was pronounced dead around 4 a.m. on March 8, and Lilian succumbed later that morning.

The deaths of the two young women have plunged the Achimota School community and their peers at UPSA into deep mourning, sparking renewed calls for improved road safety measures along the Achimota Highway.

In a statement released on March 8, the Old Achimotan Association 2024 confirmed the passing of Davida and Lilian and extended their deepest condolences to the bereaved families.

The police are now handling the case, and they are expected to proceed with investigations and possible prosecution.
