NETBALL COACHING MADE EASY

 

CHEST PASS

DESCRIPTION

  • Players in pairs with one ball about 5 meters apart.
  • keep your eyes on the target
  • Step forward with either leg
  • Push through the ball using your elbows
  • Use the step to dirve extra power through the ball

 

 

COACHING POINTS

  • Ball should be released at chest height.
  • Fingers spread around the ball in W shape.
  • Elbows tucked in (no chicken wings)
  • Transfer weight forward and push the ball.
  • Extend and follow through with arms, wrists and fingers.
  • Path of ball should flat and fast.

  • Arms straight fingers pointing at target

BOUNCE PASS

 

DESCRIPTION

Players in pairs with one ball about 5 meters apart.

COACHING POINTS

 

  • W made with fingers behind the ball
  • Aim to bounce ball just over half way between yourself and the receiver
  • Ball held at waist height
  • Step forward on release of ball
  • Follow through with arms facing the pass receiver.

SHOULDER PASS

COACHING POINTS

  • Hold the ball with your dominant hand just behind your head, at shoulder height and to one side.
  • Your elbow should be bent, roughly at 90°. Use your other hand to support the ball if necessary.
  • Place one foot in front of the other, shoulder-width apart.
  • Remove your supporting hand and use your whole arm to propel the ball in a straight line towards your target.
  • Use your fingers to direct the path of the ball, following through with your whole arm – all the way down to your fingertips.
  • Transfer weight from your back to your front foot, bringing your trailing foot through as you propel the ball forwards.

OVERHEAD PASS

COACHING POINTS

  • Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent, and weight evenly distributed.
  • Position your hands on either side of the ball, slightly above your head. Spread your fingers wide and keep your thumbs pointing towards each other to create a stable platform for the pass.
  • As you initiate the pass, extend your arms fully, using your wrists and fingers to generate power and control. Release the ball with a smooth and fluid motion, aiming for accuracy and precision.
  • After releasing the ball, continue the motion by extending your arms fully towards the target. This helps with accuracy and ensures a complete follow-through.
