How to Link Ghana Card to CAGD

How to Link Ghana Card to CAGD System

We would like to draw your attention to an important development concerning employees of the public sector in Ghana.

The Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) previously issued a letter stating that beginning in February 2024, salary payment issues will affect government employees on the central payroll who do not have National Identification Authority (NIA) Numbers associated with their identities.

The compulsory incorporation of the Ghana Card as an essential means of identification commenced with the 2020 cohort of recruits for civil and public service positions.

Incorporating the utilization of Ghana Card numbers into the employee registration process was mandated by CAGD.

Subsequent recruitment processes incorporated the NIA Number automatically, obviating the necessity for individual biometric data capture.

Prior to the 2020 cohort, the CAGD facilitated mandatory NIA Number capture sessions for all personnel, while public sector employees lacking NIA Numbers underwent special registration processes. If they were initially unable to complete the registration procedure, employees were provided with multiple opportunities to do so.

Recent data, including NIA numbers, were also collected by the numerous districts and regions. Beneficiaries of the CAP 30 Pension were mandated to participate in a verification and data capture procedure at designated sites, which comprises the following:

  • The CAGD Head Office Annex, Room 103
  • Regional Offices of CAGD
  • Offices of Diverse Pension Associations and Meeting Locations
  • Finance Departments of all District, Metropolitan, and Municipal Assemblies

The duration of this verification process is two months, starting on July 3rd and concluding on August 31st, 2023.

All government employees and personnel of the Ghanaian government (GOG) are required by a recent CAGD directive to register at one of the 292 NIA offices located throughout the country.
