Akufo-Addo commissions Flowerpot Interchange in East Legon Accra
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has officially commissioned the newly constructed Flowerpot Interchange in Accra.
The project aims to enhance connectivity and reduce congestion in the capital, solidifying the government’s commitment to infrastructure development.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, President Akufo-Addo highlighted his administration’s achievements in road infrastructure.
“My government has constructed more interchanges and flyovers than any other in Ghana’s history,” he stated, adding that the Flowerpot Interchange serves as a testament to his vision for improved urban mobility.

The Flowerpot Interchange project, which includes a state-of-the-art 802-meter flyover, begins near the Palace Mall on Spintex Road and ends at Boundary Road in East Legon. Designed to complement the recently completed underpass, the interchange provides an alternative route for North-South travel in Accra.
Key features of the project include: Ramps connecting the flyover to the motorway, Upgraded approaches to the Flowerpot Roundabout on Spintex Road, Improved access through the old tunnel leading to East Legon.
Maintenance and Regulation
The Minister of Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso-Boakye, emphasized the importance of maintaining the infrastructure. He directed the Bridge Maintenance Division of the National Roads Authority to establish a comprehensive maintenance system for all urban bridges, including the Flowerpot Interchange.
Additionally, Greater Accra Regional Minister Titus Glover cautioned against the construction of illegal structures around the interchange, warning that such activities could undermine its functionality and longevity.

Ongoing Construction
Although the interchange has been commissioned, construction is still ongoing, with contractors working toward the full completion.
The government remains optimistic about its potential to transform transportation in the Greater Accra Region.
This development is part of a broader effort to alleviate traffic congestion and improve road infrastructure across Ghana, benefiting commuters and supporting economic growth.
